Case study: Drive-In Racking for ULD Storage

Drive-In racking is a storage solution that has been utilized for several years in the warehouse industry and was designed to accommodate commodities that are similar from a dimensional standpoint. This practice translates well to the aviation industry in that it is a perfect solution for providing vertical storage options for ULD inventories.

The systems are designed to allow for maximum usage of real estate by creating deep lanes and multiple levels for ULD storage. The ULD sits on side rails that allow enough travel width for a forklift to drive into a system to pick or place containers eliminating the practice of storing these units directly on the ground stacked one upon another. The vertical aspect allows for a greater number of storage locations within the same ground footprint.
